UX Thursday #11

Illustration of, laptop, notebook, person reading

After the May break, we return to you with another UX Thursday. As compensation for the long separation, we have prepared for you a special, enlarged set of links to useful articles and materials. Today a lot about survey research, but also a few words about empathy. We also have a handful of valuable tips on designing interface states and avoiding the pitfalls that lie in wait for designers.

1. Effective polling

It's pretty easy to create an online form, but it's much harder to get a user to want to fill it out. Assuming 84% of people get one survey a week, it's crucial not to discourage them from not only completing the process, but abandoning our site altogether. Aytekin Tank from JotForm reveals what distinguishes a converting form from one that you risk losing a user.

2. Small change, big effect

How to increase the income from the sale of a product by 1-3 $ without changing its price? Alex Swain of IBM shares how he overcame this challenge and his team managed to increase the revenue of the client's business per sale.

3. Be careful! It's a trap!

How to avoid four essential design pitfalls, and what does one of them have to do with the crash of the Boeing 737 Max? Eric Olive (UI UX Training) tackles the decisions, which drive designers into these traps, but more importantly — explains how to effectively get rid of unconscious assumptions so as not to burden users with the need to think excessively.

4. Empathy, or pity and compassion?

Should the approach to working on usability be based on sympathy or empathy for the user? Researchers at the Nielsen Group explain the differences between these concepts and indicate the consequences of their incorrect application.

5. eBook: Design Report 2018

Once again the team Avocode has prepared a report summarizing the past year in design. In the e-book, seven experts decided to share their design experiences with readers — each from a specific subject area.

6. All interface states

Shane Doyle on Medium decided to share with you the method he uses for designing different interface states. Find out how to make this task easier.

7. Don't be afraid to ask

Survey research is one of the most popular ways to quickly and effectively identify the needs of your customers. From Jakuba Dodot's article You will learn, among other things, how to correctly create an online questionnaire, what tool to use and who to ask questions, so that the collected feedback is fruitful and useful.

8. Faster design, the way to SHORTCUTS

All the keyboard shortcuts in one place plus the described navigation for the most popular tools and programs used on a daily basis. Draws useful not only to designers.

We remind you that if you would like to share with us interesting links from the world of UX, send your proposals to newsletter@ideacto.pl, and we will be happy to share them in the next UX Thursdays. [FM_form id=” 1″]
